Description

LeakGuard Case Design Considerations

Tachometers are the sort of tool you don't use often. Given battery leakage is probably the second most common cause of untimely death, after drops - of hand-held battery powered devices - I decided to add a space for the 3x AAA batteries so the tool can be stored with batteries removed - yet stay handy. Even if you use the tachometer a lot, then this space is also great for spares.

The lid is a clip on type and is mainly designed to sit in a toolbox, drawer or cupboard.

Tip: Doesn't matter where you drop the first battery - it will always end up in the lower bay. Autoloading! :)

The Uni-T UT373 Mini Hand-Held Tachometer

The UT373 is a compact digital non-contact tachometer designed for measuring the rotational speed of motors and other machinery. Key features:

  • Measurement Capabilities: It can measure rotation speeds in RPM (revolutions per minute) and count revolutions, with a maximum display of 99,999.
  • Non-Contact: The device uses a laser and photodiode sensor to measure rotational objects safely without physical contact.
  • User Features: It includes auto-ranging, data hold, and Max/Min recording functions. It also has an LCD backlight for better visibility in low-light conditions.
  • Indications and Alerts: The tachometer provides overload, low battery, and laser-on indications. It also has an auto power-off feature to conserve battery life.
  • Materials: It is lightweight (85g without batteries) and designed to withstand drops from up to 1 meter.

The UT373 is powered by three 1.5V AAA batteries and comes with accessories like reflective tape for accurate measurements. Its compact size make it a handy tool for various applications, from automotive diagnostics to industrial maintenance.

In particular checking if various power tools are over-speed for the bits or the discs used in angle-grinders. Also great for calibrating custom electronics projects involving motors and rotating parts.
