Description

I used ASA and ABS materials to print a box to store my electronic hearing protection (in-ear) . Label embedded flush with lid in contrasting color. You can change the label text using the slicer text tool. Default text for some might be ᏗᎦᎴᏂ (digaleni) which is cherokee for “Ears” .

Makes a rugged, cool looking way to store them without wasting space. I can put the box in a pocket or hunting case. The ABS and ASA make sure that they are well protected. The silicon seal helps provide extra weather protection. But I left the printed seal in the model here in case someone wanted to try it with TPU (I don't have any at the moment).

With off-brand ASA filaments I got the best looking and most repeatable results with the fuzzy skin profile. This gives it a similar texture as the textured PEI plate. But all over the outside. There are 3 plates one with the original gasket and clasp, one with the normal separated compartments, and one with gaps for corded hearing protection. For the corded model the internal walls were lessened to allow for electronic or non-electronic ear plugs with a cord between them. The gap in the internal walls provides space for the cord to fit neatly. I also glued a little bit of foam (23mm x 24mm square) to reduce the rattling.

***Warning*** If you change the text or add text. Bambu slicer will not set the text flush again. You have to do it manually with the “move” tool to set it flush. If you do not set it flush. It will not print correctly. This is an issue with BambuSlicer. Not the model.

For hardware I followed the original maker's recommendations

  • Used bicycle spokes to make the pins (2mm diameter) for all pins to the latch and hinges. Like the original make calls for.
    • 2x 17mm for he back hinges
    • 2x 24.5mm for the latch hinge and catch.
  • Used silicon o-ring material to make a gasket, instead of printing one.
  • Used EVA foam (23mm x 24mm square, 3-5mm thick) in the top and bottom to cushion the hearing devices.
