Description

This is a large creepy lantern created in the “dark” Gothic style with lots of detail. It is meant to be mounted on a ¾" pvc pipe (outside diameter of just over 1" or 26.75mm). This is meant to be used with a standard LED Flame bulb for the best effect. The top and bottom “cones” are connected to the main body via twist-lock pins/slots so it is easy to assemble. To make it as easy as possible for customization, I include models for 5 different shadow panels that you can choose from and many different finials (the pointy bits). You can choose which ever designs you like the best or even create your own. I used translucent PETG for the diffusion panels which gives the lantern a very nice warm glow. This model was designed to fit an all-weather light socket from Leviton that you can get at Home Depot which supports any standard bulb so there is some simple AC wiring required although you can certainly use a battery-powered bulb of some kind as well.

Note: If you want to mount the lantern on a wall, I have posted a separate model for a Wall Mount Kit.

Saw your model and then was up way too late building and painting it. Model deserves a better paint job that I could provide. I called it “The Wizard’s Lantern” Requires attunement. Once per day can be lit (use torch rules) at night. No terrestrial baddies will agro with in 60 ft. Item may be used as an improvised weapon, 1d4+6 Fire Damage.

That is awesome! The blue makes it look very "mystical"!

Thank you. I have been printing and painting stuff for a few years now. Don't actually share it online almost ever. So the praise from the original artist of the work, is truly a bit, I did not expect. The model just spoke to me, I set it to print in the morning before work, and had myself a dam wizard lantern before I went to bed at 3AM.

would it be possible to offer a wall mounting option for this rather than PVC pipe? I absolutely love the style of your lantern but don't want to use PVC pipe as I'd like to make two of these and mount them on the wall over my wife and I's nightstand.

I think it would be easier for you to modify the bottom cone and create an adapter plate to mount your bulb. Although it is probably possible to create an adapter for the top part as well.

Very nice. Takes forever to print and difficult to assemble though. I'm planning to make two more, slightly modified. Can you share the (fusion or autodesk or whatever you used) file for the bottom & top brackets ? The goal is to separate the decorative diamonds and put them on the rectangular plate to glu on the bracket later. Doing so will allow the gold color of the diamond to be totally on top of the black rectangle when printing, leading to only one filament change. If I print them normally, I generate a lot of poo. The rest of the lantern, I either managed to separate the files for the colors or use simple layer height recoloring, again, to avoid poo waste and more importantly hours of print due to filament change. I used a Matter lamp and create different mood (with other lights in the room) for my office, depending on weather, working, gaming etc. Thank you for this outstanding work !

I cannot get the vertical supports to print, they come off the plate of my X1C every time, any ideas?

First thing I would do is clean your plate. Then I would add a 5mm outside brim to each vertical and see if that helps.Let me know.

There is plenty of room in the base for the Bambu puck light.

As an option - as a basis to take a thin transparent film and glue pieces of colored film on it, not necessarily glass. Inside the lantern there will be not so much heat from the lamp, so the film will be just right! :-)

Thank you for this beautiful lantern! I am printing several for my Halloween display this year and then they will live in my garden after. I particularly appreciate the advice to add a brim to the vertical supports as I was having an issue with those, but the brim fixed it. :)
