Description

A simple Y-splitter to allow the use of a 5th filament along with your AMS Lite.

This is a perfect solution if you are printing with filament samples, fragments, or rolls that don’t fit onto the AMS Lite—or if you’re just feeling lazy and don’t want to swap filament on your AMS Lite.

My design seeks to resolve some of the issues I encountered with other simple splitters.

  • Other splitters I tried had shallower and wider sockets, causing the PTFE tubes to slip out when the AMS Lite changed filament, which interrupted the print. This splitter has deeper, smaller-diameter sockets, allowing a firmer grip on the PTFE tubes—no glue required.
  • Another issue I faced was that the transition from tube to splitter to tube was not smooth, causing filament to jam at some point in the splitter. The tubes inside this splitter are tapered so that the filament never gets hung up and transfers smoothly throughout.

Installation Notes:

  • Be careful when inserting PTFE tubes—the fit is very tight to eliminate the need for glue. The tubes above the split are especially tight, and inserting them requires caution to avoid kinking.
  • I found that the diameter of PTFE tubes is not particularly consistent. This splitter works best with PTFE tubes around 4mm in diameter. I was also able to fit a slightly thicker piece by first cutting a chamfer on the end with a razor blade.
  • PTFE tubes should be inserted completely to ensure smooth transitions. A tube that isn’t inserted correctly or cut at a 90-degree angle could cause filament jams. This is especially important for the tubes connecting to the AMS and the extruder.
  • I found it easiest to install the tube connecting to the AMS first, then the external tube, and finally the extruder tube.
