Description

This is a great way to extend the life of your office chair without needing to buy a replacement pneumatic shock!

 

This thing was created by Thingiverse user DrMaus. 

I was extremely happy with the  quality of this design, so I have uploaded it to Maker World.

 

  • Prevents the gas pressure spring on an office chair from lowering.
  • Print in place.
  • Please be careful when opening the closures for the first time. The gaps are small and the moving elements could get stuck. The gap dimensions are about 0.3-0.4mm

Dimensions:

    Plate 1: length 134mm (approx 5.25" in height)

    Plate 2: length 97mm (approx 3.75" in height) - 72% of the original height
    inner diameter 35mm
    outer diameter 55mm

 

Recommended material is PETG.

 

Note: 
This design re-scales very nicely, if you need a different configuration. 
For a different length, just re-scale the Z-axis figure (leaving the X and Y alone - uncheck the box!)

It's to fix an office chair, when the pneumatic cylinder/shock has failed. Look at the last two pictures - it demonstrates where it goes / how it is used. A piece of ABS or PVC pipe could work as well, but with this printed solution, no disassembly of the chair is required.

works very well, had to adjust the height a bit to fit my specific chair but overall I'm very happy with it.
