D5x2 mm Round Magnet (20PCS) - CA003

Description

Update 24.02.2025: Added STL files and 2 additional profiles respectively for bigger and wider versions of the box.

A small box with magnetic opening/closing function.

It's a small, fast print - around 1 hr and 45g of filament.

You will need 4 magnets 5x2 mm for it. The magnets should be fitted with opposite polarity on the left and right side of the parts in order to achieve the magnetic opening/closing function. To use this function you need to rotate the handle 180 degrees.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

Nice! Have you tested the 6x2? Also did you try the other sizes for the box?

yes this one on pictures is with 6x2 magnets. I got it as a cool hand rolled cigarette box so the size is nice for me :D

Print was easy, but the parts fits only very tight. Also my magnets did not fit and I had to drill the holes up. Thanks for the idea!

The holes for the magnets have 0.2 mm tolerance, and the tolerance between the outer shell and drawer is 0.3 mm. If they fit too tight it may be because yoyr filament flow is higher than it should be. You might wanna check your flow calibration.

Well maybe first issue is the missing assembly instruction. I was wondering for example how deep the pin should be inserted. However, it is not nice to blaim users about a wrong filament flow (which I do not use), instead of checking your tolerances first. So for example, the inner cirlce of the pin has a diameter of 4.6 mm, the outer of 7.8. But the holes in the handle have a diameter of 5 and the outer of 8. So we have tolerances of 0.2 and 0.1mm and NOT 0.3. The 0.1mm tolerance is where I failed to insert it. Btw your magnets holes also have only a tolerance of 0.1 to each side...

I don't blame you in any way. My apologies for the misunderstanding! That was not my intention. I was just trying to help with the issue. I've printed atleast 5 without issues. This is the reason I've advised you to check the flow.

This is great! I'm gonna make a bunch more. Do you have any tips on pressing the fastener into the handle? I added a profile with embedded 10x2 magnets because i hate using glue.

What do you mean by recessed magnets? They are not visible in the image. Do you print a layer over them?

Fantastic project! I utilized PLA in my preferred hues of Bright Green and Titan Grey (Bambulab), achieving an impeccable outcome You are certainly deserving of a boost ;) My gratitude

I look forward to new dimensions! 6x2 magnet version would be perfect. Glad I looked into comment section before downloading stls and opening blender to modify them :D

I've uploaded 2 more profiles today for a bigger version and a wider version. I'm not sure if i need to add the additional STLs for them or the profile is enough. At the moment all versions are with 5x2 mm magnets, because that is the only size I have. If you have an idea for particular box dimension, I am willing to try and make one.
