Description

This is Version 2 of my Sliding Door/Barn Door Handle Lock. It now folds so it will not interfere with the doorway.

If you want something robust with a simpler design, as long as it is compatible with your handle, you should also check out my Barn Door ring lock: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1158673-sliding-barn-door-ring-lock#profileId-1164321

At this time, this particular hook is only appropriate for lightweight use - such as if you have small dogs who push doors open.

Major Improvements:

  1. Handle hook folds against the wall to keep it out of the doorway.
    1. This design change does compromise strength compared to the original version, making it much easier to break.
      1. I am currently testing other designs and materials to see if the strength can be significantly improved.
    2. This change also allows it to be used on a larger variety of door handles.
  2. Tension humps have been added so the hook will reliably stand in a vertical position.

Description:

This is a door lock for a sliding interior barn door, which uses the handle as the connection and locking point.  This lock is easy to reliably engage and folds out of the way when not in use. Once locked, it is not going to come loose without someone intentionally unlocking it.

I scaled the handle side of the mechanism to both hold the handle securely, and also provide the person unlocking the door with an easy object to press up on when disengaging the lock.

Without significant effort or tearing the lock off the wall/breaking it, there is no easy way to unlock it from the outside. In our case, it provides similar security to a regular house bathroom lock. You could bypass it, but it would take effort.

The adhesive strips I'm using are flexible 3M VHB tape, which can be removed later, but provides a very secure connection. This is the tape I'm using, but you could use other similar products:

Notes:

  1. This model should be able to be resized/scaled to fit a variety of other sizes of door handles and distances that have a similar setup.
  2. In my case, the handle is about 3CM from the door frame when the door is at rest.
  3. The door handle cylinder that the lock goes around is 1.5CM in diameter. Anything smaller should work fine, but anything much larger would require the hole or lock to be scaled up (the handle hole is ~16.8mm across).
  4. I used 3M VHB double-sided tape to attach the mount to the wall. It is VERY secure.
