Description

I use my Baofeng UV-5R for hang gliding and paragliding.  I use the keypad lock feature so I won't press buttons by mistake when it's in my pocket.  But I've yet to find any radio where that really works.  There's always something that gets pushed or turned.  So I designed this keypad cover that protects the keypad, the A/B button, the PTT, volume… everything.  You can change the volume without removing the cover, but it won't get easily bumped.

 

I printed the white one with Bambu Labs PLA matte.  Then I made some slight modifications and printed a second one (green) with Bambu Labs PETG translucent. Both printed fine with Bambu Labs standard print profiles.  You'll want to turn on supports for the print.  I used standard/snug supports.

can anybody make this compatible with the extended batteries for the uv5r? i really like the design but i just want a compatible version for the extended batteries.

I had to upload a pic for the new print profile, but I just uploaded the same pic as the original - so it obviously doesn't match.

It fits good. i Snowmobile and put this in my pack and run the mic out to the straps. i wondered how well it stays on. I’d say if it’s in a pocket it shouldn’t come apart. I might try adding some clips or tabs on a future print. maybe just a Velcro strap or tape. but this is great! and I’m glad i found it.

Other Issues:This didn't have enough room for the Antenna base and LED, so it's just completely incompatible with any UV-5R. I fixed it in bambu studio, but still wasted a whole print on the original.

You must not have a UV-5R. I've got 5 of them and this fits them all perfectly. It also seems to fit for the other folks that printed it.
