CDB originates from the need to keep our filament spools protected from moisture.
The internet abounds with systems, models, and ideas for creating such solutions, but they all demand considerable financial investment: from readily available, high-performance commercial boxes like Sunlu (incomparable, they truly deliver, and I hope to purchase one soon) to others repurposed from cereal containers, which command exorbitant prices due to their specialized dimensions for smooth spool rotation.
Therefore, I opted for a comparatively inexpensive cereal container and adapted a base with frictionless rollers for the spools.
Required materials:
Assembly is straightforward:
- Print all necessary components for the base and assemble as shown in the images;
- Drill the cereal container and install a PTFE tube fitting (I prefer the type with a through-hole and screw it directly to the container after pre-drilling a 9mm hole);
- Insert the hygrometer into its housing;
- Fill the container with silica gel;
- Place everything inside the container;
- Connect the PTFE tube to your printer and insert the filament.
Caution!
These containers are not suitable for all spools! Cardboard or original Bambu spools are incompatible as they do not rotate freely!
To circumvent this, I either utilize Sunlu spools or have printed the Bambu version for the A1 mini, thus resolving the issue. Then simply purchase Bambu filament refills, or at most, transfer the filament between spools using a respooler (many are available online).
Easy, fast, and economical!
