Description

I wanted some great sounding small bookshelf speakers. Since I live in a small appartment I dont need a lot of volume. Most small bookshelf don't do bass really well… So I decided to make my own. 

 

These are based on the Dayton audio ND91-4 3.5 inch speakers. They are small, sound great and handle bass really well. I tuned them with a 58Hz port. 

 

I used some Dayton Audio ND20FA ¾" inch tweeters incombination with a Dayton Audio 4.5Khz 12Db/oct crossover, also from dayton audio. 

 

and a wire adapter from alieexpress. Links are all at the botom. 

 

they Sound really is good. Really happy with the result. I also designed a small sub to go with them But Desided not to go tru with it because they don't need one in my opinion. Music I listen to is mostly rock, metal, blues, jazz and classical.

 

I hooked them up to a Wiim Amp and its a match made in heaven. No need to put a more expensive amp on these speakers. 

 

Note: the corssover DOES NOT FIT. you need to take all the parts of the board and resolder them without the pcb. You can also buy a smaller crossover but do realize that the components of a crossover have a VERY big impact on the sound. SO do not go with cheap parts! 

everything is made with M4 inserts. 

 

speaker dimensions are:  115 width 175 length 205 high (MM). 

 

stands need to be glued. 

 

base need to be filled with dry sand. There is a plug in the tpu parts to glue in the hole. 

 

Print settings: 

Speakers: PETG 5 wall 5 top 5 bottom and ATLEAST 35% infill…. the more you cheap out the worse they sound. speakers need a solid case. speakers should weigh about 1.1 kilo with the top part without any components. Top part needs to be glued in. Use some wood and hamer to get it in, it's a tight fit. 

Also, when finished putting the compnents in, add some foam or speaker wool. when putting the tweeter in the adapter use some glue.

stands: I printed in PETG but you can use PLA. 

I printed everything in 3x3x3 with 15% infill.. 1 stands is about 4-5 kilo of filament ( without the sand).

 

I printed everything in JAYO Black PETG since i'm going to sand them and spray paint everything in the future and if you buy 10 1.1kg rolls its very cheap.

The speaker needs to be airtight. any layer problems will result in air leakage and will have very bad effects on the sound! 

You can use epoxy on the inside to make sure there are no leaks.
