Description

Welcome to my Tatra truck axle model!

TL;DR It takes 2 days to print, needs ~€20 of hardware and the bill of material is listed below, all available from Makers' Supply. The assembly takes an hour and the YouTube video below will walk you though everything. It's also available on Etsy from me, for those without the printer.

I was always fascinated by the off-road capabilities of the Tatra trucks but especially by the inner workings of its unusual axle. Last summer we made the trip to Koprivnice in Chechia to learn more about these amazing vehicles in the Tatra Museum (highly recommended). You can see the child-like amazement in my eyes when I was playing with the life-size cross-section of front axle on the museum floor.

Coming back to the model: I made it my end of the year project. And after 300+ hours of design and 100+ hours of test prints, it's finally ready!

When you're done printing all elements, the assembly takes about an hour and I've posted the YouTube video below of me assembling it real time.

Finished model includes:

  • the axle assembly
  • with the working differential
  • working diff lock

The stand is a separate model, heavily inspired (blatantly stolen? :)) from the great-looking Jet Engine stand by Yedoggie. I've posted it separate as a remix to honor the license.

The hardware consists of bolts and bearings, all listed below. It will set you back ~€20 in Maker's Supply parts. I designed the model around these exact parts (from this supplier) so I suggest you purchase from the same place to make sure tolerances match.

The only tool you need is the 2.5mm hex key you got with your Bambu Lab printer!

Community notice: this is my first "Exclusive" model on Maker's World. I was designing my previous large models with this program in mind, but later learnt it needs the "Standard Digital File" license to be eligible. The license prevents remixes, therefore I kept my functional models as regular CC-NC open-source models for the community.

The reason I chose to make this one "Exclusive" is because I want to keep iterating it based on feedback and "own" all revisions.

👆 If you have a reasonable remix in mind and I will happily to revet this model back to Open Source model.

You can also get it form me on Etsy.
