0.5x7x12 mm (10PCS) - BB005

Description

The thrill of horse racing on your desktop.
🏇🏇
CLACKITY CLACK instead of CLOPPITY CLOP!

Turning the handle jitters the spring-loaded tracks and causes the game pieces to move forward. Due to the nature of the mechanism, race results are always random. Printing on textured plate is recommended to give the tracks and the base of the game pieces an irregular texture.

The build requires these springs: 0.5x7x12mm Helical Compression Spring (10PCS) - BB005
The profile includes a left-handed version of the shaft in case you want to install the handle on the opposite side of the game board.

Important
If after assembly you find that the horses are thrown off the track, you can add a rubber band around the base and across the the tracks, as shown in the picture. This will improve track stability, dampen their movement, and prevent them from bouncing up and down during operation.

I used these rubber bands: 50PCS 5x38mm Wide Rubber Bands - RA015 but any with similar characteristic will probably work, as long as they are so tight that they hinder track movement.

NOTE: When inserting the shaft and posts into the base, it can be helpful to push the tracks against the springs and out of the way.

General 3d Printing Tips

  • Make sure your printing plate is clean! Oils from your skin can cause adhesion issues for your prints. Regularly wash your print plate with a detergent like Dawn, and avoid touching the surface when removing prints from the bed.
  • If it's an option on your printer, always level the bed before each print. If you have to perform this manually, do so after every few prints. It takes a bit of time and patience, but it's a fair trade for reliable results.
  • Ensure bed and nozzle temperatures are within the expected range for the material you're printing. Temperatures that are too high or too low can negatively affect the print, causing warping, malformed layers, or adhesion issues.
  • Reduce your printing speed. Slower speeds are especially important for overhangs, as they give the material more time to cool as it's deposited.
