Cable Nuggets – Magnetic Cable Anchors

Meet the Cable Nuggets — tiny magnetic cable anchors that snap onto metal surfaces and lock your cables exactly where you want them.

These compact cable holders are designed to keep wandering cables neatly in place. Simply place the cable inside the holder, screw on the cap, and snap the Nugget onto any metal surface using the embedded magnet.

 

Unlike many magnetic cable clips, Cable Nuggets use a coin-shaped magnet that creates a larger contact surface against the metal, giving the Nugget a stronger and more stable grip. This helps it hold the weight of cables more securely, even with thicker cables like HDMI.

 

The downloadable file includes two build plates, giving you two sizes that cover most everyday cable types.

 

🟡 Cable Nugget (Standard) – designed for cables between 4.3–5.8 mm, such as HDMI cables and similar medium-thickness cables.

🟢 Cable Nugget Small – designed for cables between 3–4.2 mm, such as USB charging cables, phone charging cables, and similar thinner cables.

 

Both versions use the same secure screw-cap design, which locks the cable firmly in place while still allowing you to reposition the Nugget whenever needed.

 

The embedded magnet allows each Nugget to instantly snap onto metal surfaces like:

  • desk frames
  • rack equipment
  • metal shelves
  • PC cases
  • tool cabinets
  • bed frames

The screw-on caps can easily be printed in different colors, allowing you to create a simple cable identification system.

You can also use colors for personal cable identification.

 

Imagine both you and your partner charging your phones from the same metal bed frame or desk. One cable might be USB-C for an Android phone, while the other is a Lightning cable for an iPhone. By printing the Cable Nugget caps in different colors, you can identify your cable at a quick glance — no more unplugging the wrong one or tracing cables back to the charger. A small detail, but surprisingly convenient in everyday use.

 

🖨️ Print & Hardware

Both Cable Nugget versions are designed to print quickly and cleanly without any supports, making them easy to produce whenever you need a few more. The magnets are inserted after printing. Each Nugget includes a cavity on the back where the magnet can be pressed into place.

The fit is intentionally slightly tight, creating a press-fit that usually holds the magnet securely once inserted. A bit of firm pressure is typically enough to seat it fully. If you want extra security, you can also add a tiny drop of super glue before inserting the magnet.

The magnets are inexpensive and easy to find online (for example on AliExpress), and a single pack will usually last for many Cable Nuggets.

Cable Nuggets are quick to print, use very little filament, and are surprisingly handy.
