Description

This is a support for the sharpening arm on the Work Sharp Precision Adjust and Precision Adjust Elite knife sharpeners. These two models of sharpeners have a plastic arm for holding the knife that deflects slightly as you put pressure with the sharpening stones. This support goes under the arm to prevent flexing during knife sharpening. This support is not needed for (and does not fit) the Professional model, which has a more stiff metal body and arm.

Printing:

The profile uses the 0.2 mm strength preset (6 walls, 25% infill), which is sufficiently strong for the application with PLA filament. The top section of the support, which has minimal bed contact, uses a brim, but no other supports are needed.

Use:

I kept the thread tolerances fairly tight, since they will bear some weight during use. Because of this, the first time you thread the two sections together, there may be some resistance. Thread the two pieces fully together once or twice and it will run smooth after that.

When fully threaded together, slide the edge of the support with no tab under the arm just behind the metal knife clamp until the tab hits the arm side. Then unscrew the bottom only until the support just stays in place (see image below). Do not overtighten the support under the arm as this will throw off the sharpening angle. When I tighten just until it stays in place, I see about 0.5 degree change in the arm angle, but it can deflect over 1 degree if over tightened.
