Description

Mechanical lock for pull-out systems and built-ins

When building motorhome interiors, transport modules or workshop drawer systems, it is crucial to secure drawers securely in the closed position. Conventional mechanisms are either too robust or require complicated operation with two hands. This author's 3D model presents an elegant and space-saving solution for quick, one-handed locking.

An example of real integration of a lock under the worktop of a pull-out system.

Modular construction of 4 printed parts

The entire lock assembly consists of three precisely fitting components, which together form a durable unit protected from dirt:

Body

Slider

Cover

Base shell with four mounting holes for solid anchoring to the board. Contains precision printed internal guides and an internal chamber for the compression spring.Sliding mechanism. On one side it has an ergonomic circular finger loop, on the other side it merges into a robust beveled latch that engages with the locking counterpart of the slide. It contains guide grooves to minimize friction. It encloses the entire mechanism, protecting it from dust and ensuring structural integrity.

Be well and lock ;)

Automatic return mechanism and operating principle

The lock works on the principle of direct linear pull. Inside the body there is an integrated compression spring with a diameter of 9.5 mm and a length of 20 mm, which ensures automatic return of the latch to the locked position.

Left lock

Right lock

Only the right lock was modeled and the left one is mirrored.

Thanks to the distinctive color differentiation of the control element (orange ASA filament for the slider and black for the body), the lock position is immediately visually identifiable even in poorly lit installation spaces. The bevel of the latch also allows for automatic click (slide-to-lock) when closing the drawer without the need for manual unlocking.
