This contest was my first attempt at making anything parametric and this is my second design and entry using those learnings.
I used Fusion to make the design, then started thinking about how I could make everything scale, using basic excel like formulas to divide the parametric values, add or subtract to them, to make sure all parts of the design would scale as expected.
I then took this further, making it so you can specify the number of "decorations" at the top of the design, even adjust the radius of them.
Another challenge was making the top part of the design radius parametric, the issue was how to make the extruded patterns follow the radius, I ended up doing this with a cut that also copies the parametric values.
Using those same parametric values, it also generates drawers and even a fitting jig, to make it easier to attach to the wall :)

My entry for the Wind Spinner contest, a hypnotic wind spinner, with a pattern that seems to flow outwards or inwards, depending on which way the wind is blowing!
I started trying to tackle the best way of making a design that would spin effortlessly in the wind, with the least amount of friction, I looked through my parts bin and found some bearings I had from the card shuffler kit, with that problem solved (and this thing really flies with the smallest amount of wind!), it was onto the design stage.
I do my design work in Fusion, with that fired up, I started work on the basics of the design, I would make the blades print flat on the print bed, but make them fit in at an angle once complete to catch the wind and ensure they would rotate. I decided to go for a spiral pattern as I knew that would give off an interesting optical illusion, once I’d chosen the pattern, I overlayed a sketch onto of the top of the blades, for the first model the 2mm blades were black and white all the way through, but this caused structural weakness, with the blades breaking where the two colours joined. I then decided to make the bottom part of the blade one solid colour, with the black parts on top thinner extrusions. This gave structural integrity and also had the added benefit of speeding up print times as there was less colour changing to do.
With the blades ready and a push in centre wheel complete with the same pattern, I designed a simple centre ring to bring everything together, with 14 cutouts to accommodate the blades. This was designed to be push-fit, but with the speeds this can go, I had to add some glue when assembling. I initially just made the handheld stem and bearing setup, but after getting that to work, extended out the same principal to accommodate a fence bracket.
It really doesn’t take much wind to get this going and that tiny bearing really allows this to pick up some speed!
The spiral effect works well too, staring at the effect does actually make your eyes go a little funny if you stare at a blank wall after, for anyone old enough, you get the "guitar hero" effect :)
I’ve made a similar flower design, that you can custom choose the colours / petals.

I've been playing around with variable layer depths for white filament over solid backgrounds to build out different shades of colours and add more depth to what would otherwise be fairly flat images.
I've made this iOS / macOS coaster set with a Mac mini coaster holder included, if you take a look at the Phone, weather, FaceTime, Home icon etc.. you can see the effect in action. I've also uploaded a test swatch so you can see how this would look if you make your own designs :)

Having bought a Switch 2 (for my daughter... honestly) and not being able to find a controller stand that would fit, I made my own.
I've been absolutely blown away by the response to the V1, even making it to the Top 30 day trending, which was a first for me!
