The Beefy Nalgene Handle - Update: New Textured Grip versions of both handle shapes!
Upgrade your 1L Nalgene bottle with this awesome handle! This thing prints fast and only uses about 70g of filament (and a couple of M4 bolts) but will upgrade the look and function of your Nalgene forever!
Want to feel like you're drinking out of a giant tankard while hiking? DONE!
Have tiny hands and struggle to one-hand the one-litre? NO PROBLEM!
Want to have a cool Stanley Quencher like your friends but cant afford to spend thousands of dollars on a cup? BOOM! CUSTOM COLOURED STAN-GENE!
Hate how the Nalgene always rolls away? FRET NO MORE!
In all seriousness, this is a significant upgrade to the Nalgene for people with small and big hands alike making it much nicer to drink out of while adding a personal/custom touch. I also believe this could act as an accessibility tool for those with disabilities.
Instructions, please read!
Please note that there are multiple different profiles:
- Original Beefy Nalgene Handle - This is the handle seen in yellow in the photos with the bottle that has stickers on it. It has no hole in the top of the handle.
- Beefy Nalgene Handle (with Clip Hole) - This is the handle seen in bright green on the green bottle. It has a hole added in the top of the handle that can accept a carabiner so that the bottle can be clipped to a backpack or harness.
- L-Shape Beefy Nalgene Handle (with Clip Hole) - This new version has a stronger design at the top so that the lower restraining loop could be removed. While I find this handle less satisfying to use, it has the advantage of allowing the nalgene to fit into backpack bottle holder pockets. It also has a clip point. Follow the same instructions below but you will only need the 16mm M4 bolt and nut.
- Textured Versions: L-Shape & Original - These handles feature a texture to improve grip and both come with a clip hole.
Please let me know if you encounter any issues with the print and I will gladly make changes as needed.
Equipping your Nalgene with the Beefy Nalgene Handle is pretty straightforward:
- Print both parts as plated in the profile. PLA works fine and should be plenty strong enough. Supports are needed but are already manually painted where necessary.
- With the cap screwed in place, slip the main handle section over the cap and the cap strap. The cap strap must pass through the split in the handle ring. Check that the collar of the cap strap hasn't been pinched into the handle ring.
- Insert an M4 nut into the hex opening and then screw an M4x16mm socket cap bolt into the other side until tight. Both pieces should have the tolerance to fit into the openings but may require a little convincing.
- Slide the bottom handle ring over the bottom of the bottle and slip the ends into the base of the handle. Once in place, insert an M4 nut into the hex opening and then screw an M4x20mm socket cap bolt into the other side.
