Description

!!!The New years version is now available!!!

Musical Fidget (New Years Edition) by kida - MakerWorld

I proudly present the Christmas edition of the Musical Fidget! Designed to set the perfect festive mood, this version includes the four delightful tunes:

  1. We Wish You a Merry Christmas
  2. Jingle Bells
  3. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
  4. Last Christmas

Based on the first requests, I have now also uploaded the Bonus Melodies:

  1. We Wish You a Merry Christmas (Part 2) Printing part1 and part2 will give you the whole song
  2. Deck the halls (a true classic everyone knows)

These songs vary in length compared to the original 12-note design, and with the updated print profiles, it's now easier than ever to create your own custom melodies.

For more non-X-mas songs please have a look at the original Musical Fidget.

Printing Instructions

The Musical Fidget is simple to print, though good bed adhesion is essential. To ensure this, the provided print profiles include a brim, which can be disabled if you’re feeling adventurous. The brim is located around the “notes” and needs to be removed. In addition the keychain hole is filled with brim as well as the top of the arrow if printing the single colour optimized profile (see below). The model is best printed in regular PLA. Matte filament is not advised and PETG and ASA might have reduced sound.

While the default profiles use multicolour prints for a festive appearance, the second plate is optimized for single colour (text and arrow are negative parts where well timed filament changes could make it look great). Each design includes a hole for attaching a keychain, making it easy to carry your holiday tunes anywhere. Alternatively, attach a string and you can hang it in your Christmas tree.

Assembly Instructions

To assemble your X-Mas Musical Fidget:

  1. Remove the support from the slider (I think support helps the slider to work optimally).
  2. Insert the slider into place.
  3. Carefully snap the two larger pieces together.

Note: Be cautious during assembly, as the "tabs" may break along the layer lines. I recommend securing one side first, then gently pressing the tabs on the other side as you push them in. If a tab does break, the parts can be easily glued together.

Playing the Music

To enjoy your tunes:

  • Slide slowly in the rhythm of the melody to properly hear the song.
  • The melody plays in one direction only.
    • If printed in colour, an arrow indicates the correct direction.
    • If printed in a single colour, the song ends near the side with the keychain hole.

Pro Tip: For louder playback, press the fidget against a surface to amplify the sound.

Reprogramming

Customize your Musical Fidget using the provided print profile:

  • Modifiers labelled Tone # allow you to adjust each tone’s pitch.
  • Use your slicer’s scale feature (press Ctrl to constrain adjustments) to modify the height of each tone modifier. You should only change the height in one direction (hence press Ctrl).

Suggested Heights (in mm) for Common Notes:

  • G = 10.2
  • A = 11.5
  • Bb = 12.1
  • B = 13.0
  • C = 13.8
  • D = 15.15
  • Eb = 15.9
  • E = 16.2
  • F = 16.9
  • Gb = 17.4
  • G = 18.2
  • A = 19.1
  • B = 20.2

Your songs will not be in perfect pitch, but will be clearly recognisable.

For more details, refer to the additional information in the description of the original Musical Fidget.

Printed very nicely, I love the look of it, but I also can barely hear the notes. Also, the slider barely touches the notes. When you put it in the wrong way, it doesn't touch any of the notes on one side. I still like the idea of it though! Printed on A1.

This is surprising to hear. Hopefully not a common problem. I have not noticed it at least. You could try to modify the size of the slider and just print this small piece again. It should be relatively "loud" when pressed against a table or similar.

Place the underside on the table and then slide it; it will become louder 👍

Jingle Bells "Melody"
For the longest time I couldn't figure it out. I saw a commenter saying that you need to play with it for 20 mins. So I ended up deciding to wear it out by what I knew how... Rapidly going back and forth on it. Surprisingly it's one of those things where it get better over time sounding the more you use it. If you print jingle bell, you have to go slow to the tune. Jin-gle-bell-jin-gle-bell jingle-all-the-way. It should play when you slowly go left to right on the name side. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your description. As I made it, it seems obvious how it works to me, but many are probably going way to fast.
