Description

I use the Levoit Core 300 air purifier with my 3D printers to keep the air clean. After the original filter ran out, I considered buying a new one but saw that they were quite expensive compared to the purifier's price. After closer inspection, I also noticed that the original filter didn't contain much activated carbon media, so I decided an upgrade was in order.

Since I don't use the filter to clean the air of dust particles I simply vacuumed the outside of the original filter. Next, I designed an insert for the original filter that will hold as much activated carbon as possible.

This is the result:

The insert consists of 3 parts. The main basket shown in the picture, top, and bottom covers.

The top cover is glued in place and the bottom one screws in so that the media can be replaced.

(This version unfortunately doesn't work with the 300s model but you can find a link to the one that does at the end.)

A helpful user reported that even his 300 version purchased later than mine doesn't fit this design. If you are unsure I recommend you use the newer design:

Instructions:

Materials:

Print all three parts and do a dry fit. You need to scale the model appropriately depending on the material you use. PLA shouldn't need any scaling. Fit should be tight but not so much that you can't remove the insert.

In addition, you will also need 6x M3 heat-set inserts and 6x M3 screws at least 5mm long. To glue the top cover you will need a suitable glue. Superglue will work if you are quick to assemble the top cover but I prefer a quick 5min epoxy most of the time.

Assembly:

  1. Install heat-set inserts into the bottom of the filter basket. Make sure they are flush with the surface or slightly below it.

  2. Screw in the bottom cover to provide stability for the next step.

  3. Apply a thin line of glue to the top of the filter basket rims. Make sure you apply it to both surfaces in contact with the top cover.

Do the same on the top cover.

    Join both pieces together.

I find it the easiest to place the top cover top side down on a flat surface and press the basket on to it.

Make sure the external rim is flush.

  4. Wait for the glue to dry. Then you can do another dry fit in the original filter.

Next, completely pack the insert with activated carbon. You don't need to force it in, just shake it occasionally to evenly distribute it.

  5. Screw on the bottom cover to close the part and insert the whole part into the original filter cartridge.

  6. Assemble the air purifier and enjoy your clean air.

Update 2/1/25

If you wish to make the full filter, not just the insert, look here:

Update 16/2/25

If you are looking for the 300s version you can find it here:

Update 7/8/25

A helpful user reported that even the 300 (non S) version may not fit this design. It could be that they changed the general internal shape at one point so if you have a newer version it may not fit.

I recommend you check the comments and if you are not sure print the newer version that works with 300s:
