Description

These are gridfinity storage trays for my clamshell storage boxes. Stackable and non-stackable versions are available for each size - regular, extra tall, extra wide, and extra wide extra tall.

Due to the high surface area, these print very well with 3 walls and 5% support cubic infill - no need to bump it up! They print fine in any kind of PLA.

Printed good but I would change the infill due to bumping sometimes.

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by 'bumping sometimes'?

@nickjohnson I think the type of infill you use the percentage is to low so you have a lot of hollow spaces there sometimes the filament pops up. And then the printer nozzle bumps against it. As you can see a lot of holes so the printer needs to bridge long.

I concur, indeed I have also encountered these flaws

Hello @nickjohnson This seems wonderful. Any chance you can add also a plate for a 2x4 Gridfinity storage tray for containing 4 standard clamshell boxes? I know you have uploaded a parametric f3z file but it seems I cannot use it with the personal license so that is why I am asking.

Sure thing! I'll add one later today. Just to check my understanding of the personal license limitations - will it let you open it at all?

Hello, thanks Nick! Correct, it would just throw an error on opening.

That doesn't seem like the error I would expect. Are you uploading it using the upload dialog, or trying to open it some other way?

i cannot recommend to print this model. (look photos)

It looks like you're having some bridging issues. Try changing the infill to crosshatch or gyroid 10%; it'll use a little more filament, but be more reliable.

I kept getting requests to send the STL of my Vertical grid to hold this so I went ahead and done a proper once instead of the cobbled together thing I was using. I hope you don't mind my listing it here. It's on MakerWorld as "Clamshell Parts Box Grid on a vertical angle". Maybe that will reduce the manual sending of STLs over PM for me. Love your work mate!

Didn't have room for it to set flat so I modeled up a gridfinity base on an angle and it sits securely in that.

Like the boxes, these are great (Hi - I'm the one who asked for the extra tall box!). If you are looking to add things to this project and now that you've released the f3z, it would be neat to be able to configure the storage trays in different configurations based on different gridfinity layouts, just to add options for more efficient use of storage or to avoid blank slots in a tray if you want to group things by type (e.g., 2x4 gridfinity grid for 1x4 standard set of boxes -- I think the math works on that -- or a tray for the extra wide extra tall that holds just 2, but with more empty space). The latter is especially helpful for storing stuff that isn't hardware, like board game pieces -- in some cases you may not need the full tray but still want to fit it in a gridfinity grid and avoid empty spaces. I know that's a lot of extra CAD work to set up those parameters and these are amazing as is -- just an idea!

Actually, it's already parametric in that manner! You can specify the number of GF rows and columns and the number of boxes wide and deep, and it will distribute them evenly. It won't do heterogenous collections, but that would be a lot harder to parametrize!

Amazing! Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like free users of Fusion can't work with configurations -- I know they can't make them and I don't seem to be able to manipulate them to get the different configurations. Configurations sound nice though --- one more reason for me to finally pay for Fusion.

You should be able to just edit the parameters directly, I think?
