Description

The snowflake spinning puzzle is my attempt to design a new fidget toy. When I read about the contest here, I wanted to make something of my own. But I didn’t want to make another copy design, so I made for myself a challenge of 5 points.

  1. It must be something new.
  2. It has to have more than one function.
  3. It has to be nice to look at.
  4. It must be print in place.
  5. It has to be multi color! (The last one is because I just have AMS units)

The idea of multi-functional was something I found out fast. It must have very easy puzzles inside. But they need to be easy, in a way small kids can solve them. This was bringing in the different shapes and colors. You can bring the shapes together, in a repeating color sequence. But it is not only one type you can do, but you can also combine little puzzles for the kids to make! Use your imagination.

When you turn it, you can combine the numbers again. Also, a puzzle of its own. The look? Wel wintertime is coming, and what is nicer than a snowflake under a microscope. You come in a completely new world of beauty! That was where the form comes from.

And the extra fun part is, it spins around the central axis. (That was the most difficult to get right. At first it did not spin at all, because all the arms interfered with the central axis.) I designed stoppers on the arms, that were breaking. But the snowflake idea, came to the solution again so I made the stoppers more snowflake and put an angle on them.

I printed it with an AMS Unit in 3 colors, yellow, red and grey. Because it needs support, I used Bambu Lab support filament in the last lock. This way the support releases a lot better. But just in case, be careful to remove it. On some occasions I was too rough and broke one of the puzzle parts.

I really hope you enjoy this nice toy, as much as me and the kids do.
