Description

Updates

08.12.2023: For an easy PTFE tube cut, use my PTFE Tube Cutter. It will fit other remixes as well.

06.12.2023: Prototype A1 has been discontinued as it is not able to withstand the forces of the AMS. It got ripped off on multiple occasions. Next version will have side end stops to prevent the filament from sliding off the PTFE tube. Stay tuned for more updates.

Disclaimer

Please note that this modification may encounter friction with the filament of nearly full spools. This concern is more pronounced with the original design, which this remix aims to improve upon. Such friction can lead to complications during the spool's rewinding process, as it impedes the spool's smooth rotation. I am actively exploring additional solutions to circumvent this issue. Please beware that all current modifications have been done in Bambu Studio and aim for functionality, not for looks. This mod is intended for regular sized spools, usually containing 1kg of filament. Users reported that it works with 750g spools as well but that does not mean it works with other spools as well.

Project description

I have customized the AMS Helper, drawing inspiration from the original model and various remixes, while also integrating my own unique modifications. This updated version features the following enhancements relative to the original AMS Helper:

  1. Removed the brand logo.
  2. Substituted a PTFE tube for the steel rod to decrease costs and simplify accessibility.
  3. Incorporated cutouts to minimize material consumption.
  4. Expanded the space between mounting brackets to accommodate the filament release button and filament guide modification.
  5. Slimmed down the thickness to eliminate challenging overhangs during printing and to provide additional clearance for the spool.
  6. Extended the mounting bracket to prevent disengagement during filament retraction.
  7. Designed a gradual incline on the bracket extension to facilitate easier installation, particularly for the outer slots, while maintaining strong retention capability.
  8. Updated the V1 print profile to include a range of preferred height adjustments: -0.5 cm, -1 cm, and -2 cm, with each reduction having a dedicated plate setting. The original height setting has been discontinued due to user feedback indicating it interfered with the AMS lid.

Development branch

To stay updated with the latest advancements in the development branch, please refer to the designated print profile. For every significant update, I will include specifically labeled plates to share the progress. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. The latest prototype incorporates several enhancements over version 1, featuring the following modifications:

  1. Slimmer and higher positioned support between both sides
  2. The upper part of the model has been set back by a few millimeters (away from the spool) and also tilts slightly towards the spool to avoid contact with full spools. This change makes it necessary to print the component with support structure. The overall height has been reduced slightly due to constrained capabilities in Bambu Studio.

Final Notes

Please note that implementing this modification on its own will not resolve all AMS-related issues. It is part of a suite of modifications I utilize, including an 8cm PTFE tube, spool weights, and the feeding guide mod. Collectively, these modifications have contributed to a reduction in jams by approximately 90% in my experience.

This particular modification is designed for the standard AMS, not taking into account any other changes apart from those previously listed. It has not been evaluated with the Hydra AMS. I also incorporate desiccant containers into the setup to manage moisture, though they are relatively small and do not impact the effectiveness of this modification. However, results may vary based on the specific model of your desiccant container.

I am aware that there are multiple versions of the AMS in circulation. I do not have information on the exact version I own, nor can I guarantee that this modification will be compatible with every variant. Please consider this when applying the modification to your own AMS system.

Replying to @AU3D :
Ich habe die -.5 Variante gedruckt. Die hält die 750g spulen von BASF auch super mittig im AMS und jetz habe ich keine Probleme mehr beim verwenden von schmalen spulen.

The filament is squeeze between the AMS helper and the lid 🙄

First, ensure that the mod is correctly installed. If the issue persists, consider switching to the -1cm version, which should resolve the problem. While the -0cm version works well for me, I've noticed others reporting issues with it in the comment section of the original mod. Since this is a remix, the -0cm might have inherited the same issue, possibly due to variations in the AMS versions. Going forward, I may discontinue the -0cm variant because of this recurring problem, but for now, it remains available for those who still use the older setup.

The parts are too big, they touch the filament rolls

Instead of providing a vague description, could you please specify the type of spool you are using and share some clear images of the issue? This will help us understand and address your problem more effectively.

Good idea, but these didn't work for me. I don't think they hold onto the feeder well enough.
