INTRODUCTION

This is another expansion set for my Minecraft-inspired building blocks / base & diorama builder. This most recent expansion further shows the versatility of the design as base for a marble run featuring Steve and various mobs riding in mine carts! Pretty unique I should say as I'm yet to find an actual Minecraft-themed toy that combines building blocks and marble run in one that provides hours of interactive play!

FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE

The straight and corner tracks/ramps are the same size as the blocks and tiles of the Minecraft-inspired building blocks / base & diorama builder. You can re-use any blocks you already printed but I recommend printing the new pillar supports from print profile provided for better stability.

The tracks can be re-arranged and customized as long as it starts and ends in the elevator/lifter. See the assembly manual on how to create track arrangements on your own. After assembling the tracks, go ahead and customize the look by printing blocks from the Minecraft-inspired building blocks / base & diorama builder.

ADDITIONAL HARDWARE

This marble run uses 10mm steel balls for the mine carts and a TT motor to power the elevator/lifter to work. You can purchase these hardware from the Bambu Lab online store by clicking on the links below in the Bill of Materials section.

This minecart marble run is compatible with the official BL Marble Run 003 kit. You can use the motor and plastic marbles that came with the kit on the tracks but the marbles will not fit the minecarts. Below is a video showing that the marbles from BL Marble Run 003 roll and fit this minecart marble run.

PRINTING AND ASSEMBLY

IMPORTANT NOTE: Elephant's foot (first layer too squished into the build plate) may cause the blocks to be tight. DO NOT REMOVE assembled blocks right away. Wait at least a day and due to material creep, the blocks will get loose over time.

Print all parts as oriented in the print profile. Glue will be needed to assemble some of the parts and are indicated in the Assembly Guide.

FILAMENTS USED

  • minecart: Bambu Lab PLA Basic Silver (10102)
  • grass, ramps, tree/leaf block: Bambu Lab PLA Basic Mistletoe Green (10502)
  • base, soil, tree trunk: Bambu Lab PLA Matte Dark Brown (11801)
  • cave block: Bambu Lab PLA Basic Gray (10103)
  • ore block pattern: Bambu Lab PLA Basic Black (10101)
  • water: Inland Glass PLA Blue

English: Thank you for the dedication completing the print! I feel honored and happy to hear that you had fun with your son putting this together! I agree the cart could get caught sometimes but a little sanding/smoothing on the offending edges goes a long way. I also agree about filament calibration and can't stress it enough how important it is especially with the fitment of parts. I'm really impressed with the customizations you did. I feel that you even did a better job than mine! lol ...and I love what you did adding a string/web to the spider. It's brilliant!

do the heads' supports come off clean or are they supposed to have that zigzag support stuff on the back of the heads? can't for the life of me get it to come off clean. I used your default profile. Any tips welcome

Thanks for the kind words! The trial and error took me like 2 full weekends and then been printing the parts during the weekdays and kind of it's photo finish lol Submitted with a day or 2 remaining in the contest. It was tweaking the minecart (earlier version would not roll properly and/or topple) and getting the proper height of the lifter wheel that required the most iterations, then finding the most optimal drop angle for the ramps. Lots of wasted filament during trial and error but I'm happy with the result! :)

That sounds like a real marathon! I can totally imagine how nerve-wracking that must have been, I know the feeling all too well! Constantly making small adjustments is what makes these projects both exciting and challenging. However, I haven’t dared to take on such a big project myself yet! respect 👍

Thank you! I almost gave up and stopped with just using plain marbles but I thought that it would take out the novelty of the design and it just feels incomplete without the mobs riding the carts. Having the carts is crucial to the back story. I'm glad I pursued and I got the carts working! :)

Oh it is just dangling in there. But perhaps I should make a block with hole to secure the wire a little. Thanks for the boost btw!

hey no problem!!! thanks for the great print! I ordered the motor and it comes with a usb plug, but yours looks like you may have spliced it with a standard plug?

Oh not at all. The BL TT motor in the BOM comes ready to go. You just need to add it to the platform and plug it in to any usb power bank. Looking forward to your completed print!

Is all printed! the only issue was Plate 26, the qtr high couplers are sunk into the bed so they printed way too small. I'm just re-printing this now.

Dude - you are right! Plate 26 has the couplers sunk too much. I'm so sorry. I was yesterday and was only able to check today. Nways, profile has been corrected. You can now re-print plate 26 but only that plate.
