This model is related to Rubik Snake which was invented by Ernő Rubik in 1981.

The Model

It is available in 24pcs and 48pcs. You can select your preferred plate.

• Update 30/06/2024:

Added a profile with 24 and 48 pcs with more tight tolerances to reduce bending.

I printed it and I have measure a bending reduction of 15%.

I also suggest to use two wrench or similar tools to correctly engage the joint

IMPORTANT: after you printed it, wait for cooling and rotate one by one each single parts. DO NOT FLEX but ROTATE!

It seems a little hard to rotate at first time. This is necessary to setup the joints. You can help yourself with some tools (as a wrench).

The difficult of this project has been the design of the joint/junction in order to avoid disconnections between parts and to have also good robustness. The final result is a good compromise for this first version. In the future I will try to refine and optimize more all the model behaviour.

If you want to print multiple colors as two alternate color the printing time could be very long. In this case I suggest to print only top and bottom surface with different colors as my profile (you will save a lot of time and filament). Consider 48 pcs needed about 7h.
