I had a couple of 36" NeoPixel blades and really wanted a 30" or 32" one and I didn't want to buy a new blade.
So I cut down one of them and needed a replacement blade tip. I bought a couple tips from two different vendors and none of them worked with my blades. All the tips I tried came from LGT vendors, but none had the correct ‘stem’ size to insert.
So these are the simple designs are what I came up with.
There are 4:
I ended up liking and using the dome tip with stem for my use.
The ones with a stem are easier to install but the ones without are better for even lighting. CA/Crazy Glue is all that should be needed.
I would not recommend battling with any of these unless you are confident in the strength of your print.
I only plan on using mine for display or simple ‘battles’ with my 4 and 6 year olds. :)
Printing:
For strength, I used 25% grid infill on the dome stem.
You could use 0% infill if you don't plan on any battle scenarios. This would be best for the lighting since the infill will not diffuse or dim the light transmission.
I also chose to use transparent PLA for mine. White PLA just wasn't looking right to me with 2 walls and infill. Your mileage may vary.
I added a picture of the tube cutter I used to cut the NeoPixel blade.
Once cut, I left about 2 ½ pixels sticking up that filled up the tip. You should be able to get 2 - 3 pixels depending on the saber I guess.
Pictures note: the out of focus lit up saber is the original blade and the one in focus is the printed tip.
Just figured I'd share.
cheers
