Description

Waterproof container with a screw cap and gasket, to store registration certificate or other documents with your trailer, car, boat etc.

Printing:

Use a filament for the main body and cap that is solid and have good weather/UV-resistance (eg. PETG or ASA).

For the gasket, use TPU.

Print the container body with the base facing down towards the print plate

Print the cap with the top facing down towards the print plate

No need for supports but consider using a rim .

I printed the screw cap without resizing for tolerance. It gave a very tight fit with some friction initally. After secrewing the cap on off a few times, the friction between the treads became “normal”.

If you want to add some tolerance, resize the X and Y plane in the slicer or Fusion 360 file, but keep the Y plane for the treads to match (eg. 100.5 % for X an Y plane in the Bamboo slicer, adds 0,26 mm). Resize the gasket with the same parameters to fit the cap gasket groove.

Mounting:

Find a suitable beam on the trailer.

Tip: Find a spot shielded from weather exposure and hidden from view.

Attach the model with solid zip-ties through the holes in the model and fasten around the beam.

To avoid the model from moving, add a strip of mounting tape on a surface facing the beam.

Customize:

The following parameters can be customized in the Fusion 360 file:

  • The tube diameter
  • The tube length
  • The screw cap height

To edit, open the f3d-file in Fusion 360 and change the parameters from:

Design → Modify → Change Parameters

Then export the model to the printer.
