My NEW model of the American flag. Now printed flat to save filament/time, and to increase quality. Printed in PLA
It comes with a 2-part mold that only needs to be printed once, and can be used on multiple flags. I'm going to try to make my flags more of a universal size so all of them will fit into this mold. The mold is not part of the Print Profile, but I have provided the STL so you can download/print.
Place the flag in the oven at 180-185 degrees Fahrenheit until soft and pliable (5-7 minutes).
Take the flag out of the oven and place it in the base mold with the lip. Place the top edge of the flag against the lip to keep it square.
Gently shape it by hand, and then press down with the top part of the mold until cooled down enough to keep it's shape.
This flag is printed with a special (white) “support layer” in the middle to hold everything together. Without this layer, the stripes and star section would break away from each other after it's done printed. It would be best for you to load the filament colors the same way I have them in the Print Profile, so you don't have mess with recoloring it. Please do NOT paint this model manually. Instead, go into objects and choose the color for each “body” of the flag. Make sure the support layer is white, so it doesnt bleed through the surface. The model prints solid (5 bottom layers and 5 top layers). I'm not sure how well an infill will bend and mold, and hold the flag together. I also have “ironing” turned on to make the top surface better. This also adds some time to the print, so if you don't need it, feel free to shut that off.
