Have you ever had a tough time demonstrating the height of one of your 3D prints in a photograph? Print a Ruler for Scale! These simple rulers mark millimeters by increments of 50. With the separately printed base, they stand vertically to easily show the approximate height of your models. Base has a slit so the edge of the ruler sits on the same surface as the models. I use these quite often when photographing my 3D prints.
I used dual extrusion, but single extrusion with one filament swap works too. Or print a ruler all in one color (see photo for example).
Included lengths: 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300. (I do not have a large enough printer for 300, so no photo included for that one.) All rulers fit the same base.
Disclaimer: Even though they were designed with precision, these rulers should not be used for any important, accurate measuring 😉.
3D Printing Settings
Rulers are 30 mm wide. Each is 2 mm thick and the decoration is 1 mm thick. Lengths are 20 mm longer than the highest value marking. I printed the 250 diagonally on my print bed.
Base is 33 x 30 x 30 mm and it has some extra room for sliding the rulers in. If it is too tight, you could try scaling the base up slightly to increase the gaps.
Rulers should be printed at 100% scale.
