Description

This is a minor remix of the Module 1 Differential - Desktop Fidget Toy by Mervill.

 

I made the following changes for this remix:

  • Reduced the diameter of the Planet Gear Axle to make it easier to assemble without needing to ream out any holes.
  • Trimmed the inside edges of the Circlip to make it easier to install. When using standard PLA (not PLA Tough or PLA+), the original design would snap in two when I tried to install it.
  • Added an optional Crank Handle to make it easier to rotate the mechanism by hand.

I recommend using a smooth build plate to lessen friction between sliding surfaces. A light oil on the pivot points will help the mechanism rotate smoothly.

I think this is a great tool for teaching people how a differential works. The shafts are a little bit tight in their clearance, causing quite a bit of friction however, it functions it printed up perfectly.
