Description

My brothers in-laws love to play Qwirkle but sometimes things can get a bit…..Heated? Spicy?

Anyways, the table gets bumped and the store bought tile set wounds up all out of alignment and feelings get hurt etc etc…
So Magna- Qwirkle was born!

Each tile has 8 magnets in opposing North/South pole alignment so that no matter which way the tiles are rotated, they will attract.

Each tile = 8 magnets x 108 tiles = 864pcs of 6 mm x 2 mm magnets total.

Print time for 108 tiles was about 18 hours total, printed in color lots of 18 tiles each.

Printed face down on a smooth PEI Plate, but you could print face up if you chose and add ironing on the top layer to smooth it out, but that would add some print time.

Is it super monotonous to add all these magnets? Yes!

Does it really suck when you accidently insert a magnet the wrong way? Hell yes!

Will you have to reprint some single tiles when you realize your error? 100% likely!

But, overall this was a fun project and this will be my first upload ever so there are bound to be some missing info or printer settings that aren't super optimal. Feel free to let me know!

I added some custom gcode at layer 34 to pause, move the plate down 100mm and wait for the magnets to be inserted, then wait for user input to move the plate back and continue. Please be aware of relative plate position prior to using this snippet as if its less than 100mm from the printer floor it will crash into the bottom!

G91 ; Set relative positioning
G0 Z100 ; Lower bed 100 mm
M400 U1 ; Pause for user interaction
G0 Z-100 ; Raise bed back to original position
G90 ; Back to absolute positioning...
M83 ; ...but extruder relative!

I purchased a pack of 1,000 pcs from here...

Not sure where to input that this is a remix when I created the post, but here is the link to the print that I used to base my tiles on! https://makerworld.com/en/models/104398?from=search#profileId-111422

When you create / edit the model on MW there's a little radio at the very top of the form for Original / Remix / Share, which you can use to list the model it's based on. But I'm not too worried about it, nice work!
