Description

3D Printing Overview for Ryobi One+ P4500 Power Scrubber Battery Cover Adapter

Product Description

This custom-designed battery cover adapter for the Ryobi One+ P4500 Power Scrubber allows the use of DeWalt 20V Max lithium-ion batteries in place of Ryobi 18V batteries. Additionally, it accommodates larger, extended Ryobi batteries. The adapter utilizes the original hardware from the existing battery cover, including the pins and locking lever, which need to be press-fitted into the adapter for a very tight friction fit. The battery cover height is extended to 80 mm, compared to the original 50 mm, providing ample space for extended amp hour batteries and battery adapters such as this example.

Recommended Material

  • PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-Modified): This material is recommended due to its strong, durable, and flexible properties. PETG is also resistant to impact and has good temperature tolerance, making it ideal for this application.

Printing Specifications

  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm for a balance between print quality and speed.
  • Infill: 20-30% infill to ensure structural integrity without excessive material use.
  • Wall Thickness: 1.2 mm (3 perimeters) for durability.
  • Top/Bottom Layers: 4-5 layers to ensure solid surfaces.

No Supports Needed

The design of the adapter is optimized to be printed without any support structures, simplifying the printing process and reducing material waste.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Print the Adapter: Ensure your printer is calibrated correctly and set to print with PETG filament.
  2. Prepare Original Hardware: Carefully remove the pins and locking lever from the original Ryobi battery cover.
    • Press Required: A press or vice may be necessary to remove the pins from the original cover without damaging them. Avoid using a hammer to prevent damage.
  3. Press Fit Components:
    • Vice or Press Required: To achieve the very tight friction fit required for the pins, use a vice or press to insert the components into the printed adapter. Avoid using a hammer to prevent damaging the parts.
    • Press Fit Procedure: Position the pins and locking lever into the corresponding slots in the printed adapter. Apply steady pressure using the vice or press until the components are securely in place.
  4. Test Fit: Once assembled, test the adapter with both DeWalt 20V Max and larger Ryobi batteries to ensure a secure fit and proper functionality.

Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check the adapter for wear or damage, especially around the press-fit areas and locking mechanism.
  • Cleaning: Keep the adapter clean and free of debris to ensure a secure connection and proper operation.

By following this overview, users can create a reliable and functional battery cover adapter for the Ryobi One+ P4500 Power Scrubber, enhancing its versatility and battery compatibility. The extended height of 80 mm provides ample space for various battery configurations, including extended amp hour batteries and compatible adapters. The design ensures a very tight friction fit for the pins, maintaining the integrity and reliability of the connection. Note that this adapter is specifically designed for DeWalt 20V Max lithium-ion batteries to be used in place of Ryobi 18V batteries; no recommendation or endorsement is implied.
