Description

US Army - Thor's Hammer

This is a Army themed Thor's hammer. It is separated into three plates so that it can be printed easily. I think after many tests and small alterations, I have come up with a really good profile for this. I sacrificed a little bit of time to get a more durable, better quality result that can be handled fairly rough, haha.

Changes:

My remix fixes quite a few issues I had with the original NFL hammers.

  • I was able to get rid of the slight line that ran down the middle when printed.
  • No more removing a mess of supports from the inside.
  • The handle has been changed/re-oriented. This uses a bit more supports, but it provides a clean connection to the bottom of the hammer. I have printed lots of these for friends and family, and we had a few break off at that point. This change seems to end up with a sturdier hammer.
  • The “top cap” has had the lettering removed. At 75%, the quality suffered, and this just provides a cleaner look, especially with a textured plate.
  • I replaced the bottom cap with a different design, that sits flush with the side of the handle. This helps prevent the top pieces from snapping off.

Upcoming

Currently in test print. The original model had some uneven areas for the handle to connect. This caused it to not sit flush with the bottom, I have fixed that and will update the model once it is tested.

I’ve printed this hammer and the US Air Force hammer and they both turned out great.

The handle print should probably be flipped on it's other side, I haven't tried printing it this way but I did print the original way and it ended up un-adhering with an 1 hour left so I'm gonna use glue with this print. This way will save around 20g of filament and the support lines will be hidden when attached to the head.

you can definitely flip it! I do it this way to have a cleaner connection to glue to the hammer head. I haven’t experienced any adhesion issues either direction though, so I can’t say for sure that’s an issue with orientation. let me know how it comes out!

cool! I saw your Air Force as well. Could you make USMC and Navy versions?
