Description

Filament Swatch Fan Hinge model compatible with all size of Swatchinity boards (Snap-in Swatch Display Board).

Installation

1. Front board

2. Middle boards

You will need a number of spacers equal to the number of boards minus 2 (front & back).

Please note, the spacers have a raised circle unlike the optional hanging swatches.

3. Back board

In the final assembly the back board will be mounted in reverse from the others.

So be careful to install the bottom hinge swatch in a mirrored position relative to the others.

4. Optional - Hanging holes

You can optionally add hanging hole swatches on the boards. 1 per board.

5. Hinge Assembly

Choose the right hinge shaft size for the number of boards you have.

Insert the shaft inside the back board. Be careful, the back board must be upside down from the other boards.
Insert all the middle boards on the shaft.
Insert the top board inside the shaft.
Turn the whole color fan upside down.
Pick a filament swatch and use it as a screwdriver to lock the hinge

Configuration example

7 x 2x6 Swatchinity boards

Since Bambu Lab Tough PLA has been discontinued, I have removed all those swatches (10 in total) from the color fan.

That leaves us with 70 swatches. Here is how I have sorted the remaining swatches. Of course you are free to arrange them how it pleases you

Great model. Printed the 8 board version to have room for the obsolete tough PLA swatches as well. Fit is very tight however, resulting in unlocking when turning, will probably reprint the shaft with a tiny bit more z to give it more clearance.

Thanks for the feedback and the boosts. The height of the shaft should be correct. But I'll check ;) You might have an issue with the locking mechanism itself You should feel a slight resistance and hear a little click sound went locking the shaft. It is the case? Or maybe the seam on the shaft is too pronounced preventing the boards from rotating freely.

I think I know what the problem is. The last board needs to be mounted from the other side. You need to reverse it. All board are facing up expect the last one facing down. Otherwise you can't compress all the boards together and the last board will always fall off. Let me know if this is the issue ;)

Had reoriented the last board already after I took the picture, that wasn't the issue, but it's almost resolved already, some liberal moving of all the plates seems to do the trick, I'll probably try sanding a bit tomorrow, fit is currently tight but not too tight, it's definitely useable.

Great work with this, by far the most useful version I have seen of swatch storage. The entire unit feels very solid, the swatches clip snap into place quite firmly. It is incredibly easy to find any color with the fan out mechanism.

This system is great! I had been searching for a compact way to store the set of Bambu swatches that still allows you to easily see the different colors. I left out the PLA Tough swatches. No problems with printing or assembly - the hinge is a bit stiff but I assume it will loosen with use and over time.
