I had one of my old boxes come back with the request of “I really want to be able to dim it from my phone.” Well, when I made it I had just simply put a power switch on it and left it at that. I wanted to throw WLED in it somehow, but don't like having loose components laying around.
So I made up a quick and easy little print that you can use to secure a Wemos D1 Mini v3 and optionally an AOD4184 driver module to.
Print it out, glue it in to your existing print. I used E6000 and it worked perfectly.
The D1 Mini secures with a pair of M2.3 self-tapping screws and the AOD with a pair of M2, like from this kind of kit.
The end result is a ten minute print, $3 in parts, and a twenty minute effort to upgrade an existing light box with non-IC LEDs (like these white COBs) to have all the fun features of WLED like scheduling, remote control, dimming, etc. Alternatively you could also pull out old LEDs and slam a new WS2812B strip in to give it real flexibility. Makes a great up-sell to your existing customers as well :)
I print mine with FilaCube HT-PLA+ Natural, but honestly any filament should work fine.
I very quickly had a question about adding a buck converter, so I made three new variations and updated this publication. I also added a tiny indent in them so you can identify what goes where.
