Description

Hi,

I designed yet another model for taking measurements to compensate shrinkage of materials in Orca Slicer.

The underlying motivation is described in this forum thread: What’s your preferred method for measuring percent shrinkage?

It is as large as standard calipers can measure to reduce risk of measurement errors.

There are surfaces to measure dimensions from both outside and inside to cancel out any influence from under or over extrusion.

Each dimension is available twice so that you have more values to average.

It provides some posts to rest the calipers on and help to apply the chaws parallel to the surfaces (green arrows in image below).

Instructions:

For X direction, measure at both spots designated by “A” in the picture. Designed size is 150mm.

Measure both spots designated “B” with the short inside jaws. Designed size is 140mm.

Add up all values.

Repeat for Y direction.

If X and Y are very different, e.g. more then a few 1/10s of a mm, something is wrong and you should fix that before calibration for shrinkage.

Finally, add up the sums for A and B. The result divided by 1160mm is the correction factor that you should enter in Orca filament settings.

If you find a way to improve it, I would be thankful for a hint, so I can also use the improved version in the future.
