Description

While there are many honeycomb shelf designs available, I couldn’t find one that fully matched what I had in mind.

My goal was to create a truly modular system that can be expanded over time without drilling additional holes and, most importantly, without any visible screws.

With this design, just two nails or screws can securely support multiple shelves and significantly more weight than you might expect.

Printing details

Support is required for the Solid Shelf, but only on the bottom part. I’ve added a support blocker for the top section, since supports there would only ruin the print.

I also enabled ironing on the top surfaces of the Solid Shelf to improve the appearance. Feel free to disable it if you prefer a faster print or a different finish.

For the best print quality, please follow the settings in the print profiles.

Required Components

Important: Hexo Clips are required to assemble the shelves.

Use the Clips to cover the external edges of the shelves, and the Connectors to join multiple shelves of the same size. The same Connector can also be used as a wall Hook to fix the shelves to the wall.

You can use either nails or screws. Print the version that best fits your needs.

Adapters are only required if you want to connect Hexo shelves of different sizes.

Combine different variants to build your own unique and spectacular display.

Here are all the available versions of the Mini Shelf

Available Depth Sizes:

  • 20 mm / 0.79 in
  • 35 mm / 1.38 in
  • 45 mm / 1.77 in
  • 55 mm / 2.17 in

Thank you for creating that solid background for me. Took a while but was worth it. Still so much wall left... 😁

Printed in pokeball colours, and to be filled with low poly pokemon.

Thanks! Nice combination! Are those the Mini or the Midi size? I'm working on a new one that fits right between Mini and Midi. Coming soon!

All Midi, large depth. Apologies, I should have posted these photos on your midi design. To reduce material usage, I left some of the inner hexes empty, but being completely surrounded by other hexes, it still creates the patter and a shelf space. I used plasterboard screws into the fiber board wall - I only screwed in each horizontal bracket so I didn't have to use to may. But when they're all in places and tight, it's stable and has decent shearing force to handle weight. I originally wanted the black to be thin like a real pokeball and attempting using minis to fill it, but thr pattern didn't work out. So I ended up with this using all midis. Still fun. This is up in the shared bedroom of my two teenaged boys. They want me to do more - their goal is to 3d print and display every pokemon (151?) in low poly.

I used Sunlu PLA - cheapest filament I could find. The center hex in the brighter white is Bambu Labs PLA (the variants of white from different supliers never match up).

I really like your design! It is very nice that the lock is hidden so that you can combine different colors and still keep the hexagon shapes! I printed them a little less deep (23 mm) and added two Lego studs so they can be used to store/display my son’s Lego mini figures. He really enjoy being able to quickly find the figures he wants to play with and I enjoy the added colors 😊

Mini Hexo Shelf
I printed out a bunch of these for my daughters rock collection. this might be one of my favorite things I’ve printed so far. I’d love to see a medium size that I could use for my vinyl figures that are a bit too big for the small size.

I was working on a medium size, but unfortunately, it didn’t fit as nicely as I hoped. I have other ideas in mind, so I’ll be releasing more pieces soon! Thanks for the boost!

Hi Daniele! I love the stackable design as I don’t want to nail every shelf and make a bunch of holes in the wall. My only question is, if I wanted to scale this one or the “standard” one to something bigger, how do I go on about the adapters? I want smaller ones and bigger ones but I’m very fresh to 3D printing. Your help is much appreciated! ❤️

Thanks for the support! It's very appreciated! If you need to scale the standard shelf, you need to scale also the adapters and the mini ones, but the risk is that the locking system won't be so tight anymore. I guess up to 10% should be fine, but it's just a guess... how big do you need it to bie?

I think I'd need it to be around 20-22cm in height max. But I could also definitely go for the standard size with an "open roof" if that makes sense. Something like this one https://makerworld.com/en/models/60775?from=search#profileId-62973 The most important aspect is they maintain your stackable functionality.

That's quite large! I wouldn’t recommend increasing the size that much, but you can always give it a try. Just keep in mind that there’s a risk of wasting a lot of filament!I was considering adding something like that, but would it work to simply place the model directly on top of the shelf? I'm also working on additional pieces to make the top wider and flatter, allowing it to support longer models when laid down. I hope that makes sense!

suggestion, a template piece that I can screw and lineup the anchors would be great. Sort of like a print that is only .25 inches tall and open in the middle so I can screw through it and then pull off and put the piece on it. Not sure if that makes sense.

The template should hold two anchors (hooks) in plase so they can be aligned, right? Good idea!

@Tribio One idea for a hanger variant which you may like and consider would be to have a variation of screw-hangers with a bigger (longer) hole which would allow to position the hanger better on the wall in case you drilled a hole a little bit wrong. I needed basically 2mm to get it perfectly leveled and created my own variation with Bambu primitives to get it done. Does the work, but I'm sure you'd achieve something like that much much better with the original soft. I'm not fluent with 3D modeling yet so not able to do it, but may be useful for more people than just me :p So please don't consider this a request in any way, just a proposition and a problem-solving description :)

That's actually a good suggestion! Yes, I can do a version with an oval hole shape, but not any time soon I'm afraind! I'll add to the list, sure! Thanks!

Thanks, it's perfect, I just didn't understand I wanted to make them larger by scaling them up to 150 percent but the adapters remain too big I don't know where I could have made the mistake in any case thanks for the files my wife is delighted
