NOTE: I have uploaded STEP files of all models. To access them you just have to click on “Download or Print”, and then the REALLY badly labelled "Download STL" and it will show the raw model files, which are all STEP.
Since getting the Bambu Lab X1 with it's AMS system I have struggled with new cardboard spools that a lot of manufactures are moving towards.
I love the cardboard spools for their reduction in plastic waste, but they are specifically not recommended for use is the AMS system, and I have had a great deal of trouble adapting them to work.
I use predominately eSUN brand so these issues may be related to the size of the spools that they supply.
In the end I created this design, as I was not happy with the designs that I saw online.
This allows you to remove the outer cardboard rings on the spools while leaving the center tube that holds the filament intact.
Since moving to these I no longer have any issues with my AMS whereas previously i would struggle with almost every print using cardboard spools.
They use very little filament to print and are a great way to use the little bits of filament left over at the end of a roll!
If you need any extra labels that I have not included , please let me know and I will upload them to this project.
Start with a regular cardboard spool
Rip off one side, no need to clean up the edges!
Screw together the centre and one outer ring, and while squeezing the blades, push in fully (You can loop the filament end through the spokes to secure)
Flip over and rip off the remaining outer cardboard side
Screw on the other outer ring and push in the label. Enjoy!
