Description

I remixed a model I found on Thingiverse.

The original model had manifold issues that I fixed in the slicer. I also added the race names to the lids to make it easier to remember where things go.

There are 4 plates with lids:

Original Lids (No Names) - I found these to be too tight. I had to pry it off with a screw driver.

Loose Lids - These easily came off and looked a little big on the race trays when taken out of the game box.

Snug Lids - These are tight enough that you can pick up the box by the lid. It took a few times of taking them off and on to get it to not be a little too hard.

Good Lids - These were my preference as they were loose enough to come right off, but didn't look oversized when removed.

I will note that this is probably due to the shrinkage of the PLA, so you might want to print a single lid and try it before printing the set.

I set this up with 5% infill which seems to be sufficient to hold it together.

I don't have all the expansions this can hold, but it works really well for the ones I do have.

Here is the original creators description:

This is an insert for Small World made to fit in the original box and hold several expansions. Ideas for this insert are inspired by designs by ComradeBubba and jgrg1

Expansions designed to fit in this insert include:

  • Small World Base Game
  • Be Not Afraid... (Power Pack #1)
  • A Spider's Web (Power Pack #1)
  • Grand Dames (Power Pack #2)
  • Royal Bonus (Power Pack #2)
  • Cursed! (Power Pack #2)
  • Leaders
  • Sky Islands

When everything is printed out, all three boards are able to sit on top without moving (thanks to Board Rests A & B) without lid lift. You can even tip the box upside down and give it a shake and everything should remain in place (good for sideways storers like myself).

I've also designed the Race Token Inserts to hold relevant tokens right next to the race. So Troll Lairs are with the Trolls for instance. Unfortunately for those who do not yet have all these expansions, to achieve this races are arranged by best fit, not by expansion. The lids are not totally necessary, but the race tokens in Race Insert A could fall out if the box is tipped upside down.

The coin tray also holds the other tokens necessary for setup (mountains and Lost Tribes).

Sometimes a common complain with these types of inserts is that it becomes a guessing game trying to figure out where everything goes. Not this time, I've included a diagram of where everything is intended to go!

There are lids for the Race inserts. My intention is to print race stickers to place on top of each lid to make it easier to quickly find the corresponding race. Additionally, I printed the lids using Cura's "Spiralize Outer Contour" setting (often referred to as 'vase mode'). I think if using a clear filament, you may be able to see the races through the sides.

***Just in case you are wondering, there are slots for extra mountain tokens. I made these as Sky Islands added more mountains spaces (though they did not add more mountain tokens) and I happened to have extra mountains (somehow from a used copy purchase). So most users probably won't use this space, but it's something that worked for me.

My Notes on Original Description:

By the time I got around to printing the lids, I forgot the description said to use vase mode for the lids, so maybe the original lids would have fit fine if I had done that.

I found that I had to use all the mountain spots for the mountains that came with the original game.

I found that I had 3 of the 1 coins that did not fit in the storage slot for the 1s.
