Description

This cryptex is an easy to print and easy to assemble model.

You need to print the spacer ring, inner letter ring and letter ring, 5 times.

My experience is that it prints fine with Bambu filament, but with other filaments it might be a bit tight on the tolerances. If the inner letter ring does not fit the outer letter ring, set the Flow Ration in Bambu slicer for your filament to 0.92.

Assembly is done as follows:

  1. put the inner rings into the letter ring with the indent matching the letter for the ring (this is supposed to be a tight fit). You might need the back of some plyers to hammer it in
  2. take the outer box and slide the parts over it, first a spacer, then a letter ring etc.
  3. the last spacer is the end spacer, this spacer has three extrusions on the inside. You can position it with about a 30 degrees offset push it on the outside box and give it a slight turn
  4. position the code so that the inner box can be inserted
  5. insert the inner box and turn the letter wheels, the box is locked now.

Have fun!!!

PS. There is an emergency opening mechanism to open it without the code. Comes in handy if you family or friends change the code. :-) I'll leave it as a puzzle to find this mechanism.

UPDATE 23/04/2024: Improved the end spacer assembly en thickened the outer box a bit.

UPDATE 25/04/2024: Added an inner box that block the emergency opening possibility (only use this if you are sure that you won't forget your code)
