Description

Howdy!

Do you print higher-temperature, VOC-emitting, and/or sensitive filaments? If so, DS3 is the addon for you.

Introducing DS3 (Door Seal 3) for the X1/C/E & P1S 3D Printers; the first and only flexure-based door seal.

DS3 is the 3rd evolution of the original flexure based door seal, DS1.

DS3 closes up the gap between the chamber door and external panel via a moving flexure design. This allows for a positive-seal to be achieved reliably without restricting the range of movement of the door nor interfering with the printhead inside through normal printing operations.

DS3 reduces heat loss (increasing chamber temp & reducing power costs are benefits of this) and VOC emissions from the chamber without compromising looks, changing significant components, or “Door-Open” operations.

DS3 Advantages over DS1/DS2:

  • Significantly decreased interior dimensions
  • Significantly improved tolerance for misalignment between glass door & left 3D printer exterior panel
  • More reliable seal fitment in long-term operation
  • Reduced visual footprint from exterior of printer
  • Added cutting guide and increased VHB tape fitment area

Printing Requirements:

These are tight toleranced but long-term durable parts; materials and printing settings are important!

  1. Please use Arachne, 3 Wall Loops, 3 Top/Bottom Shell Layers, 20% Hexagon Infill
  2. Please use 10mm Width 3M VHB tape; optimal tape lengths are 23mm, max length is 25mm (do not exceed the dimensions of the tape placement areas). The thickness (1.1mm) of this VHB tape is critical to the design; feel free to press the foam tape to the parts firmly to 20 seconds, this will not take the end result out of tolerance as the foam expands back to 1.1mm rapidly.

@IBWADDITIVE Managed to get 10mm*1.1mm VHB tape, but having an issue with the install. The TPU catches on one of the parts inside the printer, and it does not really close properly. See the attached photo. Did you experience this when designing it, and do you have any suggestions? Thanks

same for me, did you manage to solve it?

Replying to @z0ki :
No, I didn't. When I get around to it I might just make something similar and less complicated.

Had trouble accurately printing the ends of the walls of each part, even with heavily slowed down speeds. Other TPU prints came out fine but this one I just couldn't get to work.

DS2 covers more and with proper door aligning doesn't have any clearance issues, what's the point in this DS3?

Does this work together with IBW Additive DS3 for the side of the door?

Think I used one of the ones from you before this one. It worked fine, but new version number I have to download it, lol. Printed great, works great. Thank you
