Description

If you're tired of your Bird Buddy only holding one scoop of seed, this is the accessory for you. I built this as a fun project to challenge my modeling skills, and I wanted to share it with the community, free of charge. Designed to replace the rear cover of the bird buddy, this hopper allows you to fit almost two more scoops of seed versus the stock design. This design comes in two pieces, the hopper itself, and the lid, which connects on rails.

For best results, I have found that printing the hopper vertically provides the best structural strength. This will require support material under the bottom, but it is minimal. The lid can be printed without supports on its back.

This can be printed in PLA or PETG, but I would suggest PETG due to its higher UV and heat resistance. I also had good luck printing it in translucent PETG, which allows me to check the seed level at a glance.

Thanks for this! Could I ask what your support settings were? My first print, the supports on the bottom basically ripped off the bottom of the unit :(

Did you use the regular PETG profile or the Translucent? I have not run into this issue yet, and I had to print 4-5 prototype during the design phase. I used the standard tree supports with both models upright.

Yep I did. On 2nd attempt, I turned on "support critical regions only", this changed the bottom support from flat to a bunch of little trees, this worked good!

Glad it worked out for you! Easy enough to get installed? Would love to see any pictures if you have them.

This prints out beautifully. Just a note for others, if you are hanging your bird buddy, it will add weight to the back and make the feeding area swing up. This is best used when the bird buddy is attached to a post.

Thank you! I just had a thought, I wonder if you could put counter weights underneath the front perch to help balance it out. I believe it pops out of place and there are open slots below it.
