Description

In anticipation of upcoming solar eclipse, I needed a way to attach and detach the supplied solar filter on my Seestar S50 telescope without disturbing the telescope or my shooting session. But the supplied solar filter sits quite tight on the telescope and there was no way to attach \ detach the filter without disturbing telescope.

After researching the solutions online, I decided to design my model with inspiration drawn from options that I liked. I also designed a dust cap and light shroud. The light shroud attaches to the solar filter holder with four 6*3 magnets. I am uploading the step files in case anyone wants to modify and personalize it.

Note that the filter holder has built in supports which will come off quite easily with your fingers only. These supports are not needed at all, but the round surfaces near the bed may sometimes not print properly and these supports will help with that.

April 12, 2024 Update:

Dust Cap is updated to a smaller size which ensures that it can be installed in any direction and not only vertical.

New Magnetic Attachment is added which is nothing but an attachment to the scope. Any other accessories now can be designed to be attached to this holder with magnets. New light shroud added which attached to the before mentioned magnetic plate.

I printed the main part, all parts are so close to each other, spaces need to be widened so parts can move freely... I still after all the trimming cant get both sides to bend all the way...I think the supports included in designs, which are attached like super glue to model after printing are the major reason for issue, would be great if you redesigns without supports!

Couple of tips. 1) Make sure you calibrate your flow rate. 2) You can split the part into multiple parts by clicking on "Split to parts" button. This button can be found in all slicers. Once the parts are split, you can select supports and delete them, so that they won't print.

Thank you very much for the designs. When I open them up in cura, they are tiny models, how much should I enlarge them to fit seestar properly?

You don't need to enlarge these at all. Make sure that the settings in cura are set to mm and not inches. That should resolve the issue.
