Description

I got this model of a bin from hallo_ralph on thingiverse, which itself was a remix from Stammchiller.

I have increased its size it by 200%. I have also put in a caddy for a wemos di mini with a large hole to accommodate the usbc or usb micro versions. I have made a little holder that sits in the bin for a neoPixel ring. The rings I have been getting from AliExpress are 16 pixels and about 48mm outer diameter. i have also made the hole running in the handle and lid hinge point 2mm so it should easily fit a piece of 1.75mm unused filament in it as a hinge rod. the screws needed for the wheels are now m6. I got some TORX countersunk with security bit that look like little mag wheels.

I used Wled to set a fortnightly preset to flick between the colour bins that are due to be put out on the curb that weekend. It lets me turn off the preset when I have eventually put the bins out.

I printed the body of the bin in an olive green, to match my local bins. I didn't bother with supports, the underside of the handle droops the slightest bit but i was happy with it.

The lid I printed in a transparent PLA with support.

The wheels and internal light holder I printed in black. The light holder has a support sliced in that you can remove with pliers pretty easy.
The print plates are separated and sliced as such to make the different colours a bit easier.

This project is absolutely nothing new, just what I came up with. But boy howdy is it handy. I have it sitting inside my front door and when I get home on bin night it is very obvious that its bin night. Then when I forget and start going to bed, I am reminded again when turning the lights off for bed. I have not missed bin night for 6 months +

overhangs could be designed better, definitely use supports!
