Description

IMPORTANT! Huge changes have been made to this model from the original; both supports and manual assembly are now required. Read the description carefully.
Supports and brim are needed on the arms and helmet.
If printing on a BambuLab Textured PEI plate, a brim is strongly recommended on all parts.
This model has only been printed on a BambuLab X1C and A1 using PLA Matte. Expect different results on other machines, or if using materials that are not PLA Matte.

This model is a complete rework of my old Cubone Toy. Part of the model is print-in-place (the tail and body), whilst other parts require you to snap joints together (head and arms).
It has been redesigned to fix numerous issues with the original, such as the inability to stand upright the model had due to the weight of the head, poor articulation, and quality issues with the helmet. Please see below for the changes, which helped to correct these issues.

  • The model has been orientated to print upright to provide better stability. You no longer have to snap the belly onto the model after it is printed.
  • The legs and first segment of the tail have now been fused to the body to help the model stay upright. However, they no longer move.
  • As the model prints upright, the arms and head must be printed loose. A benefit of this is that they now make use of ball-and-socket joints, which give them better movement options than the old chainlinks they once used. The ball joints are shallow so that the arms can be popped out easily, to interchange them, and reduce the chance of the ball breaking in the socket.
  • The head has been smoothed out to make it look better and for easier fitting of the helmet to it. However, like the original model, once the helmet is on it may not come off.
  • A brim is advised on the bone, otherwise it is likely to be dragged off the hotplate should too much filament extrude onto it.
A groove has been added to the bone club, which will help stick the club into either hand with the aid of glue. Due to the thickness of the hand, my original method of making a peg-joint would compromise its strength. So, I would advise supergluing the bone to the hand, or using the arm that has the bone already attached. This method, however, means you'll need a multicolour printer to make the bone a different colour.
  • The helmet now requires a brim and supports to ensure it prints cleanly (the horns no longer print with a flat defect). So long as you use the model as I orientated, and “only touching buildplate” is checked, the amount it needs will be very small.

To snap the helmet onto the head, first align the “horns” of the head with the widest portion of the skull base, then apply pressure until the horns are inserted. The rest of the head should pop right in behind them.

Cute little design! My guy struggles to stand up but I guess he's just sleepy. Turned out great with Bambu PLA Matte Latte Brown. Skull and club took a few attempts due to bed adhesion issues.

the model has been updated; it now stands up on its own. brims and supports are now needed on certain parts, like bone arms, and skull.

There's no hole in the head to even attach to the body. Arms also come out of the shoulders too easy since they don't snap in at all.

did you print the head with a brim? the hole gets covered by it. use something to cut the brim off the base. You also didn't read the description; the arms are meant to come out easily for interchangeability. If you want the arms to stay in permanently, use superglue or use a boolean to fuse the parts in the slicer.

printed pretty good used a sample pack of protopasta with no calibration so I had a few printing imperfections but this is user error on my part, the only issues with the print really is the head is really heavy and the tail body linked to the torso body could have more restricted range of motion to provide better support. I love this print over all though!!

I've updated the model; it now stands upright on its own but requires brims/supports for certain parts (helmet, arms, bone).

Printed 2 models at 80% and had issues with the connecting pieces snapping off. Trying again at 200% 🤞

Cute model, hands are a bit delicate, skull required a few setting adjustments to achieve better bed adhesion

the arms are not able to be moved without immediately falling off, and getting the skull onto the head takes a lot of force

printed great, I had some strength issues with head pin, also the arms just kept falling back out. good profile, I’m going to mess with some of my settings and maybe make it bigger see if that helps.
