Description

I've tried a whole bunch of fidget toys however i keep going back to a lighter that both clicks open and spins so i tried to make a fidget toy that does both. There are three sizes noted at the top of the plates: Standard, 85% scale and a taller profile one scaled to 75%. I also tried to make three different inserts, a standard spring force, light spring force and free spinning cog with standard spring force hinge.

When assembling the cog spring goes in the spinner case body on one side first. It should be press fit with no glue needed. i usually start it face up then flip the case cover over and press down with my thumb till its fully seated. Next the hinge spring gets put in the same side of the case the cog spring was pressed. After that place the cog on the post and then press the top half of spinner case until it is fully seated and both sides are flush.

Before continuing assembly check that the pin hole thru both the base and cap doesn't have any bubbles or strings from the small sections of overhang and if so lightly clean up with a razor. I also check the mating surfaces of the cap and base and use a sandpaper file to make sure they fit without binding. Push the insert all the way into the base and slide the cap over the insert into the base until it is flush and the holes are aligned. Apply a drop of superglue to the square corners of the inset and push the pin in until it is fully seated in the inset and let dry for 5 minutes. Apply superglue to the same places on the opposite side and put the matching inset in with the same drying time.

There is a short wear-in period on the springs and once you decide on the insert style that works best you may want to pull out the insert and put a drop of superglue on the inside of the case base to permanently secure the insert.
