This design uses a mix of 3D printed parts, various lengths of 5mm dowels and a few springs. Everything can be printed without support material (in PETG and PLA, at least) but brims may be required for some parts. Below is a list of all the non-printable parts:
5mm Metal Dowels - These can be purchased on Amazon or other websites in either kits with multiple sizes or packets of specific sizes. For this project you need:
Required
(1) 10mm x 5mm
(2) 12mm x 5mm
(5) 16mm x 5mm
(1) 20mm x 5mm
(4) 30mm x 5mm
(3) 35mm x 5mm
Handle (Required, but size can vary)
(5) dowels required, 20mm x 5mm min, 35mm x 5mm max
How to get dowels? Search “5mm metal dowels” on Amazon, or other wholesalers, and there are many options. You can buy kits with a variety of size, but I have not found a kit with every size needed for this project. The most efficient way that I know is to purchase the 2 items below:
May I ask what color filament you used? I’ve drawn arrows and the tip of the arrows is what colors I’m curious about. looks like bronze/gold or something then just gray? also are these matte or regular ABS/PETG/PLA?
Everything is Hatchbox PETG (regular, not Matte). The gears and side of the box are "True Gold". The others are "Black" and "Silver". The 4th color is "Bronze".
Super druck, habe ausschließlich PLA benutzt und ein recht gutes ergebnisse erhalten.
1 Schlitz für Münzeinwurf hinzugefügt,jetzt haben wir eine prima Spardose.
Super fun to put together!
What a fun mechanism.
(Must have taken some doing to design)
Got the first one done any my six year old declared that that one was hers and I can print one for myself if I like!?!?!
Switched to a smooth bed for my second attempt.
Think it makes the face look a bit better.
Changed a few colors and threw a $ sign in for fun.
All the parts fit together rather well.
Would recommend spraying some silicone spray in to the lock! I sprayed a but in the gears as well.
All and all fun to print a blast to assemble and a great piece to show how cool printing can be,
Thanks for sharing!
Sorry to hear that. What filament did you use? I have Prusa printers so I'm unable to test Bambu prints, but I'm surprised they dont fit. If anything they are a bit loose in my prints...
I had a similar issue. The A1Mini profile is SCALED, which makes the dowel holes the wrong size. The only fix I could think of was to use a drill bit to enlarge the holes slightly. I used a 3/6" bit, followed by an M5 bolt, then a 7/32" to clean it a little. (The 7/32" isn't to drill more plastic out, just to smooth out the plastic where the bolt deformed it. 7/32" is about 5.5mm, so just turn it in and then turn it out.)
You can also buy dowels that are 4mm and the next size shorter dowel.
@RoccosStuff_ If you'd like, I can slice a smaller version for the A1Mini with the correct-sized holes, but I'm terrible at modeling.
