Description

This is a variation of the famous Rosebud puzzle by Stewart Coffin. I have modified the pieces so that the final assembled shape is the same as his Twelve Point puzzle. Stewart was always very generous sharing his designs, I continue the tradition here.

Like Rosebud, this puzzle consists of 3 identical pieces and 3 mirror image pieces, printed here in two contrasting colors. Also like Rosebud, it has five interlocking assemblies. But unlike Rosebud, all five assemblies have the same shape. This shape is that of Stewart Coffin's puzzle Twelve Point (also Vega). One of the assemblies requires rotations, and is not possible unless the pieces are beveled slightly, as they are here. The final shape is very pointy, I have clipped the corners to make it less deadly.

Most of the solutions are easy to find and assemble except for the one which involves 6-piece coordinate motion. An optional jig is provided to help this assembly, it doubles as a display stand. The jig makes the 6-piece coordinate motion assembly simple, but you will need to figure out how to use it (not obvious). The jig needs to be large and will not work for a normal Rosebud puzzle.

Print 3 copies of each piece. You do not need the jig to assemble four of the solutions, so print it last. No supports are needed to print the pieces or jig. The 3mf file for the jig shows the special speed settings I use.

The piece size is 18.2 mm (to match my wood Rosebud), and the pieces have an offset of 0.075 mm. This may fit too tightly, if you are worried start with the pieces with double that offset (0.15 mm, files ending in _15).
