Description

This is my take on the Lenovo Legion Go backplate created by whisperit. I have created 3 versions, they all have a smaller grill mesh so it looks closer to the stock grill.

The first version (complete version) has an external area for the SSD AND kickstand, also the ssd area comes with holes (2230/2242/2260/2280) to securely attach your ssd using a standard screw for nvme. Only single sided SSD are recommended because a double side could bend/melt backplate (unless you use a very high heat resistance filament). Finally the ssd cover has 2 holes for M3x4mm flat head or M3x4mm socket head screws to protect the ssd even more.

The second version, doesn't have an area for the SSD so it has a bigger hinge, close to stock look, this one is very slim and still has a ventilation area for the SSD inside the Go. There is also an option to use the kickstand with deckmate accessories.

The third version, doesn't have a kickstand and ssd area, this one is super slim and easier/faster to print/install. I was requested to add a full vent option, so it's here.

For the first 2 versions you will need M2x3x3.5mm brass inserts and also soldering iron with small tip (small enough to hold the inserts) or a 3d pen (or you can use something else to hold insets while you heat them up to melt the parts) to assemble the stock hinge with the kickstand. You can buy them from here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8GN63S2

Thank your for printing it, were you able to install properly? I made the screw holes a little bit tight so the screw could make the thread properly. About your question, there shouldn't be too much difference, bambu app should be able to accommodate any difference.

yes, I was able to mount it well.. the only problem I have is that the print has separated slightly from the print bed from 3/4 onwards and the print has warped slightly.. I have now cleaned the print plate again and am printing it again :) hopefully it won't come off again 😅

Oh that sucks. Nothing warm water and dish soap couldn't fix. Please share pictures of your result! I would like to see results from other people. Thank you.

Could you add those holes on the side for best air flow? Or is not a good idea?

Interesting, do you have a link to that model? I was checking the insides of mine and i don't think it would add any value at all because the grill is pretty big, it would just add more time to print.

Here is the link at the model - https://www.printables.com/it/model/796307-lenovo-legion-go-custom-backplate-low-profile-sd-c - well i cannot evalute the choice cause i'm not expert in 3D printing but if it is only question of time, i think that for those holes it could be good to wait a little more ^^

Interesting, first time I see that model. Well you can tell that ventilation in that model is limited compared to mine (less holes in grill).

Printed however I'm having some issues with mine. Seems like the scaling is slightly off for my unit because my print has some bulging going on. Edges are lifted a bit and also my kickstand won't sit flat anymore. any suggestions?

Scaling is fine, because is based on the same one for the external ssd version. However because it is too thing I have discovered that it could easily bend if you remove it from the backplate while still hot. I'm gonna increase thickness of it. Thank you for reporting. You are the second person with this issue.

Also, it is very important to properly install the brass inserts. When I didn't have the right tools I had to force the screws a couple of times, not anymore.

Fantastic full vent design! Aluminium print, with some thermal pads, dropped SSD temps by 30c+! Fully sanded and rebrushed in the final picture.

I'm a guy from Italy, i asked to one print service company here in my town (cause i do not have 3D printer and neither one of my friends) but they ask me the .STP files instead of the the .STL files, i do not asked why cause i am not skilled about 3D printing. Is it possible in some way to have the .STL files? Thanks for replay in advance.

That is weird, step files are source files (the ones used to be able to edit the design) and they are not really necessary to print. Actually, you have to convert from Step to mesh (STL) in order to print. It doesn't make sense.

I don't know what to say, i live in small city we do not have lot of choice, i found that little company cause a friend of mine suggested to me; couldn't you let me have those files? I do not want to order on the web, i would like to see the result before i pay with money, some of my friends had not good experience in ordering on the web... if i asked for something wrong i apologize

Hey that looks very cool. I might do it for my Go. Also what build plate you have? I guess the shapes in the kickstand are because of the backplate?
