Description

This is a print in place winding spool I designed for standard length soft measuring tapes (60" / 150 cm) having width up to ¾" / 20 mm. If you need a version for a 120"/300cm soft tape, you can find it here.

After removing from the print bed, use a little force to free the spool from some small support, and run the spool back and forth a few time to smooth it out. Putting a few drops of light oil in the top center hole will make it run even smoother. I've printed in both matte and basic PLA with good success.

Do not use supports. You may get a floating regions warning from your slicer telling you to use supports or to reorient, but print the model bottom side down without supports. I also suggest using 0.2mm layer height if you choose not to print with the uploaded .3mf print profile.

Excellent design. Printed perfectly in galaxy black sparkle PLA, without supports as recommended. After freeing up the spool, it turned smoothly after a couple of rotations. Thank you

rotation was initially a little rough, but smoothed out quickly as it was used

the metal grommet in the end of my tape measure was a little too big to fit so I sized this up to 105% and it fit great!

The first one I printed I wanted in a beautiful metallic blue, so I used some silk PLA from CC3D. After printing it shattered apart in my hands like soggy crackers. Inspecting the center pieces I saw it wasn't held together by very much infill material.. I changed my sparse infill to 3D Honeycomb and changed to a PLA+ filament, and got better results. Not sure if it was the infill change or the filament change, but now it works wonderfully, though a bit squeaky. Youtube.com/shorts/yfh9hPrnSGE

note that if rhe metal end of your tape has protruded rivets, it won't fit. had to use lighter to soften it to push it in.

I had the same issue so added a modifier and uploaded the print profile "with eyelet" just in case someone else may want to use it.

printed cleanly, I did have to give it a little force to break the center free and was good after that, worked perfect.
