Abruzzo (or the Abruzzi) is a region with ordinary statute of southern Italy, with the capital L'Aquila, between the middle Adriatic and the central Apennines. It covers an area of 10831 km², has a population of 1 268 703 inhabitants and is divided into four provinces (Chieti, L'Aquila, Pescara and Teramo) and 305 municipalities.
It borders to the north with the Marche, to the east with the Adriatic Sea, to the west with Lazio and to the south with Molise: it is divided mainly in a coastal-hilly part on the eastern side with the beaches and hills overlooking the Adriatic, and a mountainous part on the western side with the Monti della Laga (2458 m asl), the Gran Sasso d'Italia (2914 m asl), the Maiella (2793 m asl), the Sirente-Velino (2487 m asl) and the Marsicani Mountains (2283 m asl)which constitute the main mountain ranges of the Apennine range. -Wikipedia-
